The BEST Bet
“You are who I aspire to be,” said the woman I had met just an hour before.
I heard the words, but they didn’t register. It was as though she were speaking a language where my fluency was questionable.
I smiled and tipped my head in gratitude as I thought, “Did I hear her right? Does she not see the nervousness pulsing through my veins, the insecurity. This lady definitely needs better goals.”
“Thank you,” I said as I turned to walk away.
But my Spirit nudged, “Say more, Sherry. Say more.”
I turned back, looked her in the eyes and said, “You really have no idea how much that statement means to me in this moment. Thank you.”
And this time, as I turned to walk away I thought, “And THAT is how the Universe works."
Just hours before that woman approached, I had been sitting in my car, filled with nervous energy as I walked through the notes for my presentation.
I had been asking for a sign that I was on the right track in my business. I had been asking for guidance, support and encouragement.
The imposter syndrome was big, loud, telling me that I wasn’t ready, that I didn’t belong here, that no one wanted to hear what I had to say.
If I could have turned around and gone home, I would have.
If I could have skipped out on this commitment without being noticed, I would have.
If I could have morphed into someone whose voice didn’t crack as she sweated profusely when nervous, I would have.
But I COULD NOT. Or maybe I knew in my spirit that I SHOULD NOT.
In those anxiety and fear-filled moments, my heart knew something that my head did not.
I was ready to go in and inspire, motivate and encourage.
I was not going in as an expert in this or that.
I was not going in as someone who had all the answers.
I was going in as a woman who was choosing, in spite of fear, anxiety and sweaty bits, to show up fully, standing in her Divine purpose.
In life it is easy to get caught up in feelings that say we are not good enough and experiences that cosign those feelings.
The best bet often feels like that one that prevents the potential for disappointment, failure and the like.
But the truth is that when we let ourselves off the proverbial hook and choose to go with avoiding uncomfortable experiences, we are choosing what is safe, NOT what is BEST.
The BEST bet always pushes us outside of our comfort zone as we explore new opportunities.
The BEST bet reminds us that EVEN IF things get tough, we have evidence to show we know how to get up, dust ourselves off and try again.
The BEST bet encourages us to live ON PURPOSE, knowing that on the other side of fear is more opportunity to step fully into all we were created to be.
The next time you find yourself struggling to make The BEST Bet, remember the following:
You Are (MORE THAN) Worthy
In spite of the thoughts that may say otherwise, you ARE worthy! That means you deserve the desires of your heart.
Fear Happens and That’s OK
Fear is real. Especially when stepping out of your comfort zone. But it cannot stop you...unless you allow it to.
Do NOT Be Distracted
Do not allow the voices of others to distract you from moving in ways that honor your authentic voice.
You are Limitless
The opportunities to make magic happen are endless. You simply have to trust YOUR process.
